Kaberi Antardhan (2023)

Kaberi Antardhan is a 2023 Indian Bengali language period romantic thriller film written and directed by Kaushik Ganguly.[1] It is produced by Nispal Singh under the banner of Surinder Films.[2] The film stars Srabanti Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee in lead roles.[3] The story revolves around a crime and a love story at North Bengal during the Indian Emergency Period.

It all starts when Mrinmoy Ghosh (Kaushik Sen), the powerful head police officer in Hatimara, Jalpaiguri, known for hunting down Naxal insurgents in his area, is found dead at his residence. Arghya Sen (Prosenjit), a charming middle-aged bachelor, who takes Mrinmoy’s son Amartya’s art classes, visits their house when the mystery unfolds. On his arrival, he learns that not only has Mrinmoy been killed, but Kaberi Bhattacharya (Srabanti), Mrinmoy’s beautiful sister, is also missing! Will the new officer-in-charge, Pritam Singh (Indraneil), be able to help Arghya and Mrinmoy’s family track down Kaberi, and decode the clues behind Mrinmoy’s murder, in the midst of a politically tumultuous era? Or will the drunk and irresponsible detective Gokul Debnath (Kaushik Ganguly) derail the investigations, and bring unforeseen truths to light? Kaberi Antardhan, a Surinder Films production, is a gripping drama-thriller that has managed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The film, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta, Churni Ganguly, Srabanti Chatterjee and Kaushik Ganguly, is running successfully in theatres.While the audience has embraced the film with all its political and social connotations, limited shows and odd timings have left them disappointed. Many have taken to social media to express their feelings. “Such a wonderful film,” said a social media user, adding, “Wish to watch it again.” Another user posted: “The film needs more shows. More people should watch this film.”Hoping that it will soon find more screens again, actor-director Kaushik Ganguly said he believes in the content resonating with the audience rather than numbers. “As a director, I’m just concerned with how well the film is connecting with the people. The excel sheet belongs to the producers. So far, the reaction to it has been phenomenal and I’m very happy with the reviews. The pre-booking for Saraswati Puja and R-Day is also massive. Maybe we have to lie low for the next few days, but it will pick up,” he said.Reacting to the altered show timings, Prosenjit said, “I am grateful to my audience that Kaberi Antardhan ran successfully for four days since its release. We wish we had more screens and better timings to reach out to the audience that has shown so much love for this film. We need to think hard about how Bengali films can survive with all round support and encouragement.”
